The Progressive Group Vrontados has been operating since 1924 and the Museum is a local initiative to gather abundant folkloric, historical and nautical material. Several tools and appliances of the folklore as well as everyday rural objects will draw your attention. And the revival of the Chian everyday life does not stop here.
In the exhibits of the ecclesiastical-historical collection, you will have the opportunity to observe rare heirlooms. The most impressive ones are: the preserved parts of the marble iconostasis of Agios Georgios' Cathedral and the martial gear (military helmets, weapons, swords etc.) from the battle of Epos, the most crucial battle in the liberation of Chios in 15/11/1912. A maritime collection is also hosted in the museum, which includes seascapes, calendars, compasses and a collection of natural history. Some representative items of this collection are stuffed birds and animals of the Chian fauna, some of which are pretty rare (vulture, osprey, Pelecanus crispus etc.).
