Volissos Castle, the only defensive wall of the area, is located northwest of Chora on an elevated slope. Its construction is dated from the 11th century, but the presence of Genoans during the 15th century has also been confirmed. Volissos Castle is of a trapezoid shape with six circular towers, while several buildings (cisterns, churches) inside the castle indicate its integral design.
