Within 21km from Chora, the medieval village Kalamoti has approximately 600 inhabitants, but was once a prosperous Mastihohori and the administrative center of the area. That's the reason why its buildings are more gallant. The defensive wall that protected the locals from the pirate raids is not evident nowadays. However, a section of the village with the typical medieval architecture, the treeless streets with the double-decked buildings and the impressive semi dejected domes has been preserved from the passing of time. If the speech production of the locals impresses you, you should know that many words come directly from the antiquity and the Homeric times. Komi's sea, just 2km away, cools the Kalamotian coast.
