A monastery with a remarkable history. During the Ottoman Empire and after the revolution of 1821, a school operated there. The monastery is named after the Byzantine Mary 'Nikopoios' ('she who brings victory') According to legend, the icon had been transferred to the island during the period of the fall of Constantinople before being transported and stored in San Marco in Venice, where it is found today.
