The mosque is located in the old town, not far from the castle and it reveals the ottoman presence at this region. It dates back to 1530 and was the mosque of the Muslims that lived in the old town. It replaced the byzantine church of Agia Paraskevi which was built at that particular site. When refugees came, it was used it as shelter for many families. During the period 1930-1940 the mosque hosted the Philarmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Kavala and thus became known as the “Mosque of the Music”. It is worth visiting so as to have a complete picture of the history of this region and its Muslim character which managed to survive until these days.
