It is the oldest church of the town and it is a three-aisled basilica. The present building is said to have existed since 1800, since according to findings the previous building was burned down in 1700. The name Kavaki has remained since the Turkish occupancy, when the Muslim Turks forbade Christians to build bell towers. Therefore, the priest and the locals put the church bell on some “kavakia” (poplar trees) next to the church, so that every time the wind blew the bell rang. In the church you can see the embroidered icon of Pammegiston Taxiarchon, which is special because of the detailed embroidery of the images.
