The wine tradition began in 1890 in a relatively small winery situated in Siva, a small village just 17 km of Heraklion. It was then accommodated in the family house, where both home and winepress were built with stone and sand. Now, it has turned into a state-of-the-art winery, equipped with the highest technology machinery available today.
Seventy privately owned acres are cultivated with biological methods. The calcium enriched clay soil of this land provides certain richness and ultimate, unique quality to the Cretan wine. Specific varieties of grapes common in the area, such as Liatiko, Kotsifali, Thrapsathiri and Malvazia are grown, as well as the best-reputed varieties from all around the world such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillion which are blended with our local varieties, creating exclusive new flavors.
During the past few years Silva Daskalaki has gained 15 awards in international competitions, among which 3 golden metals at the International competition in Berlin in 2014.
Keep in touch, since there are several events taking place in the winery as well as wine tours and tasting!
